Having a dog leash for your pet doesn’t have to be as restrictive as it was in the past. Because of local ordinances and the possibility of lawsuits it is important that you invest in a strong, secure dog leash that you can use to restrain your pet when needed.

Even though there are many people that oppose restraining their pets there are many good reasons for doing so. Foremost is that by leash training your dog you will teach them discipline and let’s not forget that leash laws are in effect in many places with stiff fines for violations.

It is also a good idea to use a good dog leash to restrain your dog so that it does not run away from you or bother anyone around you. Remember, if your dog does run away or causes any harm to a person or their property you are personally libel for all damages caused by your pet.

There are two primary types of leash systems you can use to properly restrain your dog. The first is the traditional dog leash and collar that fits around your dog’s neck and head. This method lets you easily attach any dog identification tags and using a simple hook on the collar lets you attach the leash.

Some pet owners do not like to use a neck leash because they are concerned about that the tightness of the collar could hurt their pet. The dog leash collar arrangement also does not allow you to have full control over your pet as it directs the pet through the neck only.

The more modern leash that fits around a dog’s body is a very popular alternative to the traditional neck leash. This type of leash makes it easy to direct your pet without having to worry that you are causing any discomfort by pulling directly on their neck. The chest leash is a little more difficult to attach to the dog but in the long run is the better choice overall.

A retractable dog leash is a new type of leash that is very popular among pet owners because it lets the pet have more freedom of movement to explore during their walk. When a person or car approaches you simply pull the leash tighter bringing your dog closer so they are not in harm’s way.

A common leash related injury is caused by wrapping the leash around your fingers. Even small dogs can exert enough force to injure your fingers if they become excited and start to run so be sure and use your whole hand to hold the leash.

The latest trend among dog owners today is getting Dog Exercise Machines even your dog can exercise indoors when weather is bad.
